When tension rises, we often listen only for the moment when we can defend ourselves. Our bodies may be present while our minds prepare a rebuttal.
James connects quick listening, slow speech, and restrained anger. Listening does not require agreement, but it does require enough humility to believe we may not yet understand the whole story.
Jesus-centered listening seeks both truth and the person. It creates room for clarification, lowers unnecessary heat, and helps us respond from wisdom rather than wounded impulse.
In which relationship do you need to become more curious before becoming more certain?
PrayerLord, make me quick to listen and slow to react. Quiet my defensiveness and give me wisdom that serves truth, understanding, and peace. Amen.
